According to Gordon Brown who was the United Nations’ Special Envoy for Global Education, the deforestation in Sarawak is one of history’s worst environmental crimes. If the island of Borneo continues its current rate of deforestation, it will severely be affected by climate change. This thesis breaks down the issues contributing to climate change in order for it to be tackled in a comprehensive scale, and they are food security (deforestation for agriculture production), low environmental awareness and disengagement with nature. So how can we help in mitigating climate change? Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Kuching city, on the feet of the legendary Mount Santubong lies the Borneo’s Terrarium: A Regenerative Environmental Youth Hub. The programmes are arranged for experiential learning to produce green-minded youths, complimented with a design approach that allows the building itself to be an educator medium that reconnects the community to the environment, their roots and the indigenous ways. Regenerative is an environmental bias design approach which the world is in dire need of due to the global warming issues especially in tropical climate cities.
