A Flâneur’s Guide to Boystown: Performativity, Pride and Place Part 2 Dissertation 2016 Robin Farmer Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL) | UK ‘A Flâneur’s Guide to Boystown’ addresses the ways in which the streetscape of Boystown, Chicago, functions as a site for contemporary expression. The dissertation unpeels the layered history of the neighbourhood, the first municipally-recognised gay village in the United States, and uses oral histories from community members to illustrate the varied and complex ways in which we construct, alter, erase and rebuild our surroundings as an extension of ourselves.
