What can we learn from fiction about how we experience architecture? Every story takes place somewhere, and through novels we can study how these places are perceived, interpreted and inhabited. In Monica Ali’s Brick Lane the main character is an immigrant to London, and as she discovers the city we see how her image of the place — and thus the reader’s — is composed: from fragments of description, observations and encounters.
