Mostari/Bridge-Keepers: The destruction and rebuilding of Stari Most as an exemplar of the impermanence of cultural identity Part 2 Dissertation 2017 Thomas Gregory University of Bath | UK The Old Bridge of Mostar, Stari Most, was destroyed in the Bosnian War 24 years ago as an act of cultural and ethnic warfare. The destruction of the Ottoman-built bridge was symbolic of the breakdown of multi-ethnic communities in former Yugoslavia and so its reconstruction was intended as a metaphor for reconciliation. This paper explores the limited impact of its reconstruction as a tool of reconciliation between different ethnic communities. Thomas Gregory Tutor(s) Robert Proctor
