Odette and Odile: The tragic art of the Apollonian and Dionysian. An exploration of the moving body in our experience and representation of architecture and dance Part 2 Dissertation 2017 Celia De Villiers Oxford Brookes University Oxford | UK This research explores concepts of space within architecture and ballet, focusing on the body and movement when experiencing space. The body is fundamental to a dancer’s experience of space, whereas architecture may tend to favour a visual understanding, leaving spaces lacking. The research considers how creating an interplay between the visual, illusory or Apollonian and the visceral, real or Dionysian can lead to more meaningful architectural experiences and their representations.
