Multimedia Oblivion – Palmyra: Violence, erasure and the corporeal architectural body

Part 2 Dissertation 2017
Rory Sherlock
Architectural Association London | UK
Elucidating the process of architectural destruction at Palmyra and the transfiguration of its monuments into media, the thesis attempts to understand the mechanisms by which this material is generated, the agendas by which it is governed and how it intervenes in the formation of history and the collective memory.

In the contemporary condition of mass media production, instant information transfer and expanding communications networks, stone is a volatile corporeal presence.
