Violent Design: Can the Creation of Conflict be Used to Define a New Methodology for Design? Part 2 Dissertation 2018 Edward Crump University of Brighton | UK This piece of writing puts forward a challenge to the contemporary way of making a design, suggesting that opportunity can be found in areas of conflict that occur on the boundary between two entities. It uses the theory of ‘smooth’ and ‘striated’ space put forward by the French philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari to explore the relationships found in land ownership, board games and analogue and digital design tools.
