The Loss of Post-War Council Estates in London: A case study of the Aylesbury Estate in South-East London Part 1 Dissertation 2019 Sarah Osei Ravensbourne University London | UK ‘…The estate is more than just dwellings and maisonettes. There is a community. There is a family.’ This thesis questions the urban renewal of one of Europe’s largest Council Estates and the deliberation into why regeneration has become the final resort. Recognising how architects have designed in the past to suit working class people, the research explores the overall design, maintenance of the estate and representation of its residents. In doing so, I explore the backbone of council housing, its tragedies and historical origins post-war. The approach of the investigation is a personal study, through the eyes of the residents, including myself. Sarah Osei Tutor(s) Sabina Andron
