St. Pancras: A cathedral amongst railway stations in Britain Part 2 Dissertation 2019 Joshua White University of Central Lancashire | UK This written dissertation describes an embracement of the intertwining of two critical components that make St Pancras railway station. It highlights the development of the architecture, crafted by Sir George Gilbert-Scott and the genius engineering by Sir William Henry Barlow and what influenced their friendships, ideas, collaborations and designs that developed into what St Pancras has become.Through these elements, it reveals the inner meanings that show what transformed the ideas of the engineers and architects to design their proposals for St Pancras. This investigation was accomplished through the theories of Jacques Derrida and his methodology of Deconstruction; by breaking apart ideas, revealing their inner meanings and bringing them back together to reveal a more cohesive relationship of train shed and hotel. The written thesis was accomplished as a result through their work that allowed the coming together of the greatest architectural and engineering minds of the 19th century and is a tribute to their efforts.
