Woman and Neighborhood Part 1 Dissertation 2020 Jakeline Gonzales Hilares National University of Engineering | Peru The 1980s is a period characterized by the representation of organized women in the process of territorial occupation and political-social movements. In this context, essential infrastructure arises such as 'communal canteens' as a compensatory mechanism to the economic crisis. The Villa El Salvador (VES) district in Lima - Peru located in the desert near the Peruvian coast, stands out for its community character from its origins, difficulties of settlement, climate and accessibility to essential services. Forty years later, despite the massive feminine organizations, public policies still tend not to consider the needs of women in planning and running the city. This research aims to evaluate urban space with a gender focus and determine which characteristics can contribute to reducing inequalities in neighbourhoods. The incorporation of the gender category into the urban analysis takes into account urban characteristics such as proximity, diversity, autonomy and vitality in essential infrastructure, which is used by women immersed in the daily network of Sector II of Villa El Salvador.
