Mapping the Effectiveness of the GreenSL Rating System in Achieving Built Environment Responsive Sustainable Development Goals Part 2 Dissertation 2022 Dineth Nishada Magala Kottahachchi University of Moratuwa | Sri Lanka Environment, economy and the community are the three main pillars for a balanced world. The phenomenon of sustainability is consisting of these three bottom lines, and a low middle income country like Sri Lanka should be more focused on this concept. To achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, cities must have efficient and productive buildings. As a result, green buildings have increased, and green building rating systems have played a significant part in this progression. However, it is still unclear how green buildings contribute to the 17 SDGs in Sri Lanka. The research is based on analysed and confirmed architecture related SDG goals. The study's assessment method composes a case study approach with a benchmark evaluation and a deviation analysis mapping. The study results explicitly inform that the GreenSL rating tool is massively diverted from the balanced three sustainable bottom lines compared with the DGNB benchmark rating tool. The findings of the theoretical analysis are validated and confirmed using a selected case study which is already rated using the Sri Lankan rating tool. Thus, the outcome informs far reaching implications to improve the GreenSL rating tool towards a sustainable rating tool to promote sustainable architecture in Sri Lanka.
