This essay examines how representation plays a role in the hybridization between tradition and modernity in Saudi Arabia under the leadership of King Faisal Bin Abdulaziz (1964-1975), King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz (1982-2005), King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz (2005-2015), and lastly, the reign of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman (2015-Present).Every building has a story, one that represents the time it was built, the significant history it holds, and the aspirations the Kingdom had through creating those structures. To be able to identify the location and context of a building through an image or postcard is a privilege. To be represented by a structure that resembles your tradition, knowing this is your home, your culture, your heritage is a privilege. The projects illustrated in this essay convey various elements of history, whether its tradition and modernity, locality or globalization, all projects aim to achieve the threshold of traditional design.By researching articles written by locals, it was concluded that tradition does not need to be lost, but rather integrated in creating new components of a building that creates an interplay between the conservative and the contemporary.
