Nature, Embodiment and Culture in Aalto's Architecture Part 2 Dissertation 2023 Alexandra Crivat Kingston University Kingston | UK The dissertation explores the concept of architecture as a mediating frame for experiencing the world.Looking at works of Alvar Aalto, the text interrogates the idea of culture as an embodied memory rooted in everyday life. His architecture goes beyond a formal reference to its natural context. It portrays the experience of living both in nature, and the urban environment, celebrating life rituals and society progress. In this context, architecture can be understood as both a threshold meant to engage the inhabitant with the world, as well as, a vessel able to carry our collective memory through time. Thus, cultural continuity is achieved through a process of accumulation. Through empathy and bodily experience, architecture provides a frame which allows evolution and change in order to enrich human experience. Alexandra Crivat Tutor(s)Dr Alexandra Stara
