This dissertation, titled "Morphological Optimization of Symbiotic Urbanism in Riverfront Developments: The Case of Beirut River," delves into the heart of a neglected and forgotten riverfront in Lebanon. The Beirut River, once a lifeline for the city, now lies in a state of severe degradation, overshadowed by pollution, neglect, and urban encroachment. Despite its dire condition, the river holds immense potential for transformative urban development. This research explores the concept of symbiotic urbanism, where ecological restoration and urban regeneration go hand in hand. Through morphological optimization, it seeks to unlock the potential of the Beirut Riverfront, proposing innovative strategies to breathe new life into this critical area. By examining successful riverfront developments worldwide and applying these lessons to the unique context of Beirut, the research offers actionable insights and design principles aimed at reviving the river. The goal is to create a sustainable, resilient, and dynamic urban waterfront that enhances the ecosystem while enriching the lives of those who live and work nearby. This work is a heartfelt plea for a better future for Beirut, driven by hope and a vision of a city where nature and urban life coexist harmoniously, and where the river that once bled red flows clear and vibrant again.
