The Life of Architecture: Embracing Patina and Decay

Part 1 Dissertation 2024
Victor Williams Salmeron
University of Kent | UK
The inevitability of decay often connotes themes of loss and decline, for it is seen as both a sentimental and physical atrophy of something once great. Yet, at times, we see undeniable wisdoms emerging from decay; profound, irreplicable poetries can arise from withstanding the vicissitudes of time.

This essay considers, questions and explores the idea of a building not as a static, finished thing, but as a constantly changing one, a process of building.
