Police Regulations 1839-1860: Socio-Territorial Control, Ornate and Salubrity in Lima XIX Century Part 1 Dissertation 2024 Jean Carlos Jimenez Zeña National University of Engineering | Peru The idea for this research arose from my interest in studying how police regulations regulated activities in the XIX century Lima society. Although these regulations are usually related only to the police, they also had a very important influence on the urban environment of the city of Lima. It is for these reasons that this research aims to demonstrate how the regulations referring to socio-territorial control, ornate and salubrity established in the police regulations of 1839 influenced the city of Lima in the XIX century, from its implementation in 1839 until 1860, precisely in the transition stage after the political independence of Peru, in relation to Spain. This research is important because, during this stage, police regulations acquired great relevance in the process of consolidation of the new legal, social and urban planning in the country. These regulations were legal instruments that sought to establish norms and regulate the behaviour of the population in different aspects, such as security, public order, territorial demarcation and registration, ornate and salubrity. In this sense, the analysis and study of these police regulations provide a detailed vision of how they were crucial in the changes and transformations that took place in Peruvian society during that period, which is the main justification for the approach of this research.
