Architecture often overlooks interdisciplinary approaches, relying heavily on technical and formal references. This limits the creative potential of design by excluding tools like literature that can enrich the process. This project addresses this gap by proposing literature as a method for architectural creativity.

Through a detailed study of Gabriel García Márquez’s narrative characteristics—such as non-linear time, symbolic repetition, and atmospheric spaces—the project interprets these as conceptual and spatial strategies. This interpretative process guides the creative development of the Literatus Cultural Center in Cartagena, a city deeply connected to the author’s legacy.

Rather than copying Márquez’s stories literally, the design reimagines his storytelling techniques into four spatial strategies that shape atmosphere, circulation, and symbolism within the building. This creative methodology expands the architect’s toolkit, positioning literature not just as representation but as a generative design resource.

By centering literature in the creative process, the project bridges immaterial narrative and physical space, enhancing emotional and poetic dimensions. Written Architecture becomes a method that deepens architectural innovation and cultural expression, crafting spaces that resonate with memory and imagination.
