Dynapolis Disassembled: A puzzle of urban fragments Part 1 Dissertation 2025 Adina Usman Coventry University | UK Amid the growing influence of capitalism on contemporary societies, this research offers an incisive analysis of capitalist existence and prevalence in urban forms, examining how it begins to impact multiple human aspects, such as social hierarchy, access to commodities, and population density. It identifies systemic failures embedded in capitalist urban development, revealing how recurring spatial and socio-economic patterns contribute to the long-term deterioration of urban form.Using the 1960 Masterplan of Islamabad by C. A. Doxiadis as a key case study, the work examines how the city's original vision, framed around modernist ideals and structured growth, has diverged over time due to political, economic, and market-driven pressures. Conducted at a time when Islamabad is undergoing a significant transitional phase, the research recognises this moment as a critical opportunity, where reflection and reform are not only urgent but also more achievable. Through this lens, the research explores the broader implications of capitalist urbanism and its role in shaping both present conditions and future trajectories.Combining historical analysis, critical theory, and spatial evaluation, the study not only diagnoses the faults of Islamabad’s urban evolution but also proposes informed interventions. These aim to guide urban development toward more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable futures. Tutor(s) Tulika Gadakari Giovanna Piga
