THE RELATIONSHIOP BETWEN ARCHITECTURE AND HISTORY IS PROBLEMATICAL. POINTS OF RUPTURE WITHIN THE CONTINUUM OF ARCHITECTURAL DEVELOPMENT LEAD TO WHAT CAN BE DESCRIBED AS 'MEMORY CRISES' PROVIKED BY THE DESIRE TO BREAK WITH RECENT TRADITION.

THE NOTION OF HISTORY AS A SUBJECT CAN BE UNDERSTOOD AND AND ANALYSED, PLAYS A CRUCIAL ROLE IN A SOCIETY'S PERCEPTION OF EXISTING ARCHITECTURE.
