Urban Link LIDO, Bucharest

Part 2 Project 2023

The prestigious site lies abandoned between the hearts of the two important boulevards of Bucharest: Magheru Boulevard and Calea Victoriei. Magheru Boulevard contains unique buildings with names and personalities, the Jawol Block and the Lido Hotel being on the site. Calea Victoriei contains special buildings such as the Romanian Athenaeum, a concert hall which is located near the site.

Three keywords define the proposal: Pool, Concert, Public Space.

A triangular volume initiates a dialogue with the Angelescu House and the Boteanu Church through the new square. In the cylinder that penetrates the triangular volume is the main concert hall around which the other public spaces unfold. The contemporary concert hall supports the George Enescu festival having 1200 seats. The extension of the Lido Hotel and the restoration of the first wave pool are proposed, bringing the hotel up to a contemporary standard and creating a symmetrical enclosure. A secondary hall is positioned in the axis of symmetry of the pool and opens to the hotel creating a perspective end.

The 'urban void' is revived by bringing it back into the important space it once was through the public spaces within the proposal: the public spaces of the concert hall and of the wave pool.
