Dzielnia is an architectural proposal for the revitalization of the Stara Sandecja site in Nowy Sącz - a medium-sized Polish city experiencing the effects of depopulation. The project envisions a hybrid public space that merges architecture with landscape, aiming to regenerate a neglected urban area through spatial and programmatic innovation. It responds to the urgent need for inclusive, youth-oriented infrastructure by fostering cultural participation and community engagement. The intervention comprises a multifunctional building organized around a permeable courtyard, referencing traditional urban typologies such as the city’s Main Square and public parks. The surrounding urban fabric is reactivated through strategic additions: modernization of the retail arcade, integration of housing, relocation and enhancement of local market, expansion of school grounds, and pedestrian-friendly linkages. Programmatic hybridity is central to the project. Functions - identified through community consultation - include a mediatheque, performance, workshops, co-working areas, music rooms, sports facilities, and an urban garden. Architecture becomes a catalyst for social resilience, offering young residents a space for creativity and self-expression. More than a building, Dzielnia becomes a manifesto of hybridity, flexibility, and sustainability. It bridges Nowy Sącz’s past and future, restoring identity and belonging while offering a destination for learning, experimentation, and play.
