Rebourne

Part 1 Project 2024
Lucy Harris
Arts University Bournemouth | UK
Rebourne Project encompasses three years of learning for BA architecture. Answering the final year project brief to design a 21st Century Hall for the City.

The project explores this subject through the characteristics and nature of two former local protagonists; Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein, buried in the site location’s graveyard, and AJ Seal, Art Deco architect who contributed to the town's initial architectural development in the 1930s.

The outcome offers a welcoming space for the fractured communities of Bournemouth, Dorset to use in the form of a university / public library. The focus of this library is to recognise a rise in the art and design sector, which is building on its entertainment heritage and establishing itself within the town. Creating an iconic building that will bring the town’s people together, through a love of reading and art and design. The building will become a recognisable symbol, the beating heart of the town and its rebirth.
