Gran Edificio Multifamiliar

Part 1 Project 2025
Marcos Antonio Franco Uturunco
University of Lima | Peru
The project begins with a question: How can a multifamily building be reciprocal with the city? This inquiry emerges in response to the ongoing privatization of public space in Lima, manifested through physical barriers like fences across sidewalks and parks—elements that fragment the urban experience and weaken social bonds.

In contrast, the project proposes a housing model that challenges the conventional real estate system, integrating public space as an essential structure of collective dwelling. The concept of the building is based on the idea of reinterpreting the city within the building itself, inspired by the role of public space at the neighborhood scale as a powerful tool for constructing social identity. Rather than limiting itself to residential use, the building embraces an urban role, resisting enclosure and reimagining habitation as a public, collective, and shared experience.
