Breathe Easy

This project responds to the concerning air pollution levels in Liverpool, a legacy of the cities industrial and maritime history. At its highest of 2.5, the particulate concentration has had a great impact on public health, particularly for children and those with existing respiratory conditions. The proposed building serves as a therapeutic, exercise and relaxation facility for individuals with lung conditions affected by the poor air quality, offering a safe, environmentally connected and health focused environment.

The design prioritises clean air strategies, incorporating multiple different ventilation strategies within the three cores of the building to clean the air within the building. As well as a small-scale smog tower and pollution absorbing façades to clean the air within the immediate surrounding, ready to be dispersed back through the building. The result is a space that supports the physical and mental health of its users and environmental sustainability, serving as a model for responsive health-conscious urban architecture.
