Selah

Part 1 Project 2025

Welcome to Selah, Selah is the Hebrew word that translates to mean praise. This building is a place of Christian worship, a space to create community and gather together. The architecture is specifically tailored to take you on a journey to the place of performance. It is somewhere to express praise, the building is a light to its context, a beacon shining in the East-end of Glasgow. Set apart and special from everything else, surrounding the space with a spiritual atmosphere, I promise people will walk out feeling something different.

This proposal is communicated mostly through orthogonal representation. This is deliberate to maintain a cohesive style.

After studying church typology in depth the projects are visually conveyed on historical papers showing carefully drawn designs. I decided to pursue this concept to relate my understanding to the religious typology.
This architectural exploration has maximised the retrofit an existing building and aimed to regenerate areas of unuse. Carefully analysing how sustainable strategies can be used to enhance a place and maintain familiarity through architecture. By identifying the ‘weak’ points the new build element can become a piece of patchwork that sews into its context, stitching the site back together.
