Passage de Maison

Part 2 Project 2025

This project reimagines the traditional arcade as a new urban passage, one where space, light, and structure come together to create a continuous experience through the dense city. Drawing inspiration from the Parisian arcades and their seamless urban links, the design builds a spatial journey looping from Oxford Street to New Bond Street and back, blending fast fashion and luxury into a single, flowing narrative.

Light is used as a material to shape the project. Inspired by Sir John Soane’s mastery of top lighting at the Soane Museum, courtyards and strategically placed lightwells break open the urban mass, letting daylight organise and animate the architecture. The existing building edges become the framework for a sculptural canopy, allowing light, space, and structure to evolve together.

At the heart of the project is the idea of a sustainable, circular economy. Fashion upcycling studios and performance spaces are embedded within the arcade, offering new spaces for making, teaching, and exchange.

Students from nearby fashion schools are brought into the life of the site, reinforcing local creativity. Rather than preserving the arcade as a historic object, the project reinterprets it making it responsive, and ready for a more sustainable future city.
