This work focuses on the architectural intervention of the 'Mercado Central de Lima', also known as 'Mercado Gran Mariscal Ramón Castilla'. The proposal aims to revitalize the building by combining contemporary elements with its original architecture, addressing the current needs of an area characterized by its dynamic activity. The project critiques the original modernist design for its rigidity and lack of adaptability, which limits social interaction, degrading the image to the city and hinders the building's evolution. In response, a programmatic envelope is proposed, adding flexibility through constructive layers. This 'extra space' preserves the original structure while introducing new programs to redefine the space, allowing the building to adapt as community needs evolve. The intervention also occurs inside the building, three main voids were proposed to the interior, breaking the homogeneity of the original design, creating interesting spatial relationships. These changes transform the space and challenge established architectural conventions, offering new experiences for users. The approach aims to preserve the building's history while enhancing spaces for social and commercial interaction, improving the user's spatial environment, revitalizing its aesthetics, and enriching the building's architectural legacy.
