Shattered Futures

Part 1 Project 2025

Shattered Futures is a museum of climate, located in the Parc de Bercy, in the centre of Paris. It has been conceived as a realisation of the journey made by climate- affected populations in response to the pressures they face in ever more inhospitable environments that degrade health and damage livelihoods. By confronting and engaging visitors and locals alike with a new and unexpected building in a well-loved part of the city, Shattered Futures aims to establish the relevance of climate change to all our lives and demonstrate how impacts that seem distant and alien are closer to home than we might like.

The long journey from climate catastrophe to new beginnings is one of upheaval and uncertainty before the hope of a new life. Shattered Futures emulates this journey through its design by taking visitors by surprise, initially as a result of its location, and then when exploring the building, through spaces that are initially disjointed and uncomfortable, before emerging into light-filled atriums and open terraces that welcome the visitor into the heart of Paris.
