'Re:Construct' explores the transformative potential of material re-use in architecture by giving discarded materials a second life, addressing the urgency of sustainable construction.

Re-use remains limited by fragmented systems, a lack of infrastructure, and an industry dominated by demolition and raw materials. 'Re:Construct' proposes a scalable alternative, a material reclamation and resource hub embedded within the city, enabling reuse logistics to become part of the built environment.

Located in Sheffield, a city rooted in industrial heritage, 'Re:Construct' salvages materials from abandoned structures and establishes a platform for processing, archiving and reintegrating these resources into architectural applications.

'Re:Construct' redefines waste as a valuable resource through a demountable structure that can be dismantled and relocated, extending its impact across multiple sites. The response includes spaces for sorting, processing, and archiving materials, alongside community workshops and education spaces, fostering skills in sustainable construction.

The design process centred on conceiving the building as a dynamic material bank in a perpetual state of construction. A system of integrated gantries and cranes allows the structure to evolve, displaying and storing salvaged materials throughout the building. This infrastructure enables materials to be accessed, showcased to buyers, and extracted when purchased, turning the architecture into exhibition and inventory.
