Fishers’ Crest envisions the transformation of Moratuwa into a vibrant waterfront city by creating a dynamic fisheries and seafood hub along its neglected coastal edge. Set within a larger urban design strategy, the project addresses critical issues of poor infrastructure, coastal slums, and environmental degradation by developing the area as a structured fishery district.

The design blends wholesale and retail fish markets, a seafood culinary school, floating restaurants, and leisure fishing platforms into a multifunctional public destination. It aims to celebrate the fishing community’s unseen contributions while creating economic and cultural opportunities through food, tourism, and education. Public promenades, shaded decks, and civic spaces activate the coast, inviting diverse user groups to engage with the waterfront.

The project also pioneers smart water strategies, including rainwater harvesting, gravity-fed cleaning, and centralized waste treatment, setting a new benchmark for hygienic and sustainable fish markets in Sri Lanka. Fishers’ Crest is not just a building; it is a regenerative urban edge that empowers traditional livelihoods, fosters social connection, and redefines Moratuwa’s identity as a resilient, inclusive, and forward-looking waterfront city.
