As a global metropolis, Shanghai embodies a hybrid culture shaped by the interplay of localization and globalisation. To enhance the provision of innovative public spaces that could revitalise urban communities, this project proposes the Nature-Inspired Art Museum, a three-story “Hidden Eden” designed as part of the Hidden Art in Green masterplan. It merges nature, art, and public space, offering accessible greenery while fostering cultural engagement. Aimed at blending local identity with global artistic and cultural influences, this hybrid design aspires to become a new cultural landmark that could redefine public spaces in Shanghai. The key idea is to create a sustainable urban “Peach Blossom Spring” for Shanghai residents. The museum integrates formal and informal spaces, biotic design, and environmental symbolism to establish an urban living ecosystem where architecture and nature coexist. The museum spaces encourage community interaction by hosting local art displays, workshops, and educational programs to strengthen social engagement through informal and outdoor learning environments.
The ground floor features an open semi- underground space with undulating green hills, a reflective lake, and meandering lawns, softening the rigidity of traditional structures and allowing visitors to explore freely. The architectural form embodies the metaphor of the "Cycle," intersecting with landscaped spaces.
