For thousands of years, The Nile River has continued to flow as an abundant source of freshwater, providing rich, fertile and prosperous agricultural lands along its banks. However, in recent years, this vital resource has faced vast challenges due to overpopulation, shifting consumption patterns, and climate change. Rising temperatures, soil dryness, shifts in precipitation patterns and increased vulnerability to pests and diseases, pose increasing risks to crop sustainability, food security and the livelihoods of rural agricultural communities.

To help mitigate the impacts of climate change on agricultural activity, the project proposes a decentralised network of sites along the Nile Valley for training, research and agricultural monitoring using the innovative and advanced technology of drone scanning. Recent advancements in drone scanning allow the monitoring of crop and soil health, managing crop disease and providing appropriate irrigation needs replacing water-intensive traditional methods.

In addition to its central premise of embracing technological advancements for the betterment of farmers’ livelihoods amidst challenging environmental conditions, this project ultimately aims to create a more resilient agricultural framework across Egypt, empowering local communities to restore and support a long history of agricultural practice, mitigating the increasing effects of global climate change and simultaneously reviving Egypt’s agricultural heritage.
