Growing up in an urban environment, I felt a persistent sense of disconnection, something missing that I couldn’t define. It wasn’t until I moved to a greener setting that I realised this void stemmed from a lack of connection with nature. This personal experience, particularly influenced by time spent at Bradgate Park and New Walk in Leicester, shaped the foundation of my project: A Children’s Educational Space in Leicester that fosters meaningful interaction with the natural environment.

The design responds to the lack of nature-based experiences in urban childhoods. Through Architecture, it offers a space where children can learn by doing “More Leaning, Less Teaching”. The core concept explores how children engage with trees through the seasons, using them as living structure for play, learning, and sensory exploration. Seasonal changes inform both spatial design and material use, encouraging curiosity, resilience, and emotional development.

The outcome is a carefully considered timber framed space that bridges urban life with nature. It provides flexible zones for outdoor learning and free play, nurturing a deeper appreciation for the environment. This project aims not only to support children’s cognitive and emotional growth but to in still a lasting connection with the natural world.
