Part 1 Project 2025

The “Tink” project renovates the closed Gongjin Middle School into a shared space, aiming to create a community beyond apartment complexes. Gongjin Middle School is located in Gayang-dong, which was rapidly developed into large-scale apartment complexes, regardless of the land’s original character. Each apartment complex reinforced its boundaries, repelling others, until the apartment came to be regarded not just as a place of belonging, but as an extension of personal identity. The communities they formed remained internal, in sharp contrast to the emptied urban streets outside. These subtle tensions between apartments extended even into schools — spaces meant for children. Eventually, Gongjin Middle School was shut down. On this wounded land, we hoped that people would loosen their guarded boundaries, so that such divisions would not repeat. If a community once confined within apartments could emerge here, perhaps it could become a shared place of rest for all. This project begins by dismantling the existing retaining wall and revealing the original terrain. Exterior, semi-exterior, and interior spaces intersect, creating loose and fluid relationships through ambiguous boundaries. Let’s stop for a moment, and take a breath.
